All non-profit professionals are invited to join OneTable, the Quad Cities Community Foundation, and The Project for a comment-writing workshop. We'll provide background information, talking points, and guided support to help you write a public comment to federal officials.

What's Happening
On May 29, 2026, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) proposed sweeping changes to the federal rules that govern grants and cooperative agreements that are given to nonprofits, local and state governments, and others. You can read a breakdown of these changes by the National Council of Nonprofits here.

Federal Rules, Local Impact
For Quad Cities nonprofits, that uncertainty will make it harder to hire and retain staff, maintain programs, and respond to community needs. Organizations that provide healthcare, housing assistance, food support, education, workforce development, mental health services, substance use treatment, disaster recovery, and other essential programs will face increased financial and operational risks.

If adopted, the proposal would give federal agencies broad discretion to make sweeping changes to funding with little to no objective criteria. This would create significant risk and instability for organizations that rely on federal funding--both directly and through pass-through dollars--to provide critical services and plan for the future.

How We Push Back
As a non-profit community, we have the power to voice our concerns through the federal comment submission process. Writing comments is a critical way to voice concerns on potential impact and to build a public record for potential legal action.

All comments must be submitted by July 13.

The need for your organization’s voice is urgent!  All attendees who wish to join can submit on behalf of themselves or their organization.

NOTE: If you are joining us in person, please bring lunch and bring a tablet or laptop to submit your comments.
